A new engineering partnership is being hailed as ‘pivotal’ in helping power companies across Aberdeen and the North Sea protect their high-value electrical assets.
North Sea Power Solutions (NSPS) has acquired the rights to distribute High Voltage Partial Discharge (HVPD)’s products and services in the region, a move which will see more projects protected by market-leading condition monitoring technology.
NSPS, part of the Valor Energy Group, are electrical engineering specialists supplying electrical and procurement services through-out the Energy industry. The Aberdeen based firm is recognised for supporting critical electrical projects in the North Sea and internationally, with services ranging from 33kv Jointing and Termination, HV/LV Switchgear maintenance, rope access, and thermography to heat tracing and partial discharge.
HVPD are key innovators in the field of managing Partial Discharge, a phenomenon which leads to the degradation of electrical insulation and catastrophic plant failures. They have more than 25 years’ experience in safeguarding the optimised operation of High Voltage assets and networks.
The Manchester-based company holds a number of international patents for their Partial Discharge solutions, and are capable of providing on-line monitoring and testing for full HV networks: Air-Insulated Switchgear (AIS), Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS), transformers, cables, and rotating machines – including those in hazardous ATEX zones. Among their customers around the world are BP, Equinor, Chrysaor, Apache Corporation, Shell, Siemens, ABB, Schneider.
HVPD’s Commercial Director Rachel Oates said: “This is not only a fantastic opportunity for HVPD and NSPS, but also a pivotal opportunity to expand the knowledge of Partial Discharge in the region, which will help minimise downtime for the companies that constitute the power generation backbone of the UK. We are delighted to be working alongside NSPS and look forward to protecting the region’s High Voltage networks together.
“Our combined experience and expertise of Partial Discharge, as well as our innovative products and services, routinely save our customers time and money, as well as enabling them to move towards an efficient condition-based asset maintenance strategy.”
As well as distribution, the partnership will seek to improve the region’s awareness of Partial Discharge, which is still a relatively-new – but vital – aspect of HV condition monitoring. This will be achieved with a number of jointly-hosted events, such as HVPD’s established ‘Lunch & Learn’ educational seminars.
Simon Speak, HVPD’s UK & Ireland Sales Manager, said: “Aberdeen and the North Sea is a very important region for us, and our offering is very relevant for HV assets in the area. We have had fantastic receptions in the past when presenting to companies in the area, so the prospect of reaching a wider audience is exciting. Pooling our knowledge, contacts, products, and services with NSPS will be hugely beneficial for the region in general.”
David Gray, NSPS Managing Director comments: “The partnership with HVPD has been long anticipated, and we are now eager to pass the benefits of this formal arrangement onto our clients. We strive to offer our clients the most advanced solutions possible, so adding HVPD’s products and services to our offering will allow both companies to excel in safeguarding assets from the potentially devastating effects of partial discharge.”
David continues: “We are delighted to be working with such a reputable company as HVPD, and look forward to demonstrating the exceptional capabilities of this combined initiative.”
NSPS will be performing HVPD product demonstrations and training events from their facility in Kinellar, Aberdeenshire, and encourage interested parties to get in touch to receive an invitation.
